"White Desert Oasis - Things to Do in Agafay Desert

Agafay is nestled on the highest peak of the Atlas Mountains, about 30 kilometers away from the "Red City" Marrakech, covering hundreds of hectares of stones and rocks. Over a long period of time, the rocky gravel gradually weathered, forming hills of white and ochre tones. For this reason, people gave Agafay a special name - "White Desert".

Agafay Desert

Looking back on history, the Agafay Desert is closely related to the ancient trade routes connecting Marrakech and neighboring areas. Since ancient times, it has been a stop for caravans carrying goods and stories. Merchants led camels loaded with goods and struggled through the desert. The Agafay Desert was like a silent guardian, witnessing their sweat and laughter, and listening to those anecdotes from afar. However, strictly speaking, Agafay is not a desert in the traditional sense, but a reduced semi-desert area, a place similar to a desert road, a Gobi, a small rocky desert, and a masterpiece of nature's ingenuity.

There is also an oasis of about seven hectares in the Agafay Desert, known as the "Magic Oasis". Eucalyptus, olive trees and grapevines grow in the oasis, and the nearby river valley gives it endless vitality. In the depressions of the valley, frogs and turtles are at ease, finding a delicate balance between water and dry land and living quietly. Animals and plants thrive here, making this oasis a paradise of tranquility and peace. And between the hills of the desert, there are still some Berber villages standing quietly, continuing the ancient way of life, like stars in the desert, emitting a unique cultural light.

So what can you do in the Agafay Desert?
