Morocco to receive 17.4 million tourists in 2024, a record high
The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social Economy and Solidarity reported that Morocco received 17.4 million tourists in 2024, breaking the historical record. The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism attributed this significant growth to the contribution of foreign tourists (8.8 million visits) and Moroccans living abroad (8.6 million visits).
"Morocco has achieved great and unprecedented results in 2024. By the end of December, Morocco had received 17.4 million tourists, thus achieving the ambitious target for 2026 two years ahead of schedule," the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism explained in a statement. "These figures represent a 20% increase in the number of tourist arrivals compared to 2023, or about 3 million more tourists.
This positive momentum reflects the significant growth in the number of foreign tourists, which has reached 8.8 million (+23%), and Moroccan tourists living abroad, which has reached 8.6 million (+17%). The balanced distribution between foreign tourists (51%) and Moroccans living abroad (49%) also proves the continued appeal of the destination for both types of tourists.
"This record figure of 17.4 million tourists reflects the great progress achieved by our country under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI," said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social Economy and Solidarity. "This excellent performance is the result of targeted government investments in this important sector of the national economy, in addition to the continued mobilization of all professionals in the field," she said. "I congratulate all public and private sector players who have contributed to the brilliance of Moroccan tourism."
The statement concluded by noting that these results are 35% higher than the 2019 figures, highlighting the effectiveness of the tourism road map and making Morocco the number one tourist destination in Africa.
